Ask the Manhattan Monk!
- So where do we start?
Well, first off you will need to purchase a wedding
license application. They cost around $60.
- OK smart guy, where do we get the license?
Marriage license applications are obtainable from your
local county office.
- Does the license have to be obtained from the same county as
where our ceremony is taking place?
Nope. It used to be that way but no longer.
- What do we do with the application once we get it?
Fill out only the parts that pertain to you and your
spouse-to-be. About the top 2/3. The rest is up to me!
- Do we have to mail it in once the application is complete?
No way! I take care of that stuff!
- We know what we're wearing, but
what are you wearing to our wedding?
I have options. I have the classic black suit and clerical
collar. I also have a variety of shirt/ tie combos that
dress it up as well. Of course I
welcome your input. Coming soon, wife willing, will be
alternative clergyware!!
- Would you wear a costume for a theme wedding?
Absolutely! I would love to!! However, costume rental is
extra.
- Do you perform same sex marriages?
It is now legal for same-sex couples to get married in the
state of Oregon! Hooray!! I know, it's technically a
"civil service" , but who says you can't make an event
out of it? I'm just the Monk for the job!
- Do you still do commitment ceremonies?
Yes, of course. Prices are the same as for weddings. See the
Rate page.
- Will you travel outside Portland?
Sure! I charge $2/mile outside the city limits.
- Do we have to be counseled by you before the wedding?
Heck no! I will be happy to listen and discuss any concerns
you have but I AM NOT A CERTIFIED RELATIONSHIP PROFESSIONAL
TYPE PERSON. If you feel you should, seek a professional
marriage counselor.
- Hey, why do you call yourself the "Manhattan" Monk?
It's an interesting but long story. Ask me in person.
- What church do you represent?
The Universal Life Church of Modesto California.
